I have finally sussed why the years are flying past so quick. A guy told me in the pub. When you're 5 a year is a fifth of your life so it seems to take ages but when you're 35 a year is a thirtyfifth of your life, hence it doesn't seem to take very long. Seems pretty plausible to me but it still doesn't help to slow things down. Mind you it could be worse, I could be 80, that must be like sitting on a flowery couch in the outside lane of the time motorway, roaring past all the thirtysomething whippersnappers as they run about thinking they're busy and important with they're lofty ambitions and lofty apartments. I spoke to an old bloke recently who said that life goes in stages and you can't see the folly of what you're doing just now until you're in the next stage, that bit older and that bit wiser. He said anger was a waste of time and being happy was what it was all about but by the time you realise this your body makes you look old so no-one listens to you and that makes you want to be angry but then you see the irony in it all and laugh. I told him that I want it all. I want youth but I also want wisdom. Oh and whilst I was at it I want a big house, a beautiful wife, lovely kids, a nice car, a flat screen telly and a holiday home by the sea. He looked at me, paused for a second, and laughed.
